Clearwater recreation center offers free swim lessons to kids

CLEARWATER — With summer approaching, the Ross Norton Recreation Center is offering free swim lessons to Belleair Elementary School students this month.

Ross Norton staff will teach about 300 kids each week from each grade level, according to public communications coordinator Jason Beisel.

The students will visit the center for 30 minutes a day in lieu of physical education class.

"They teach them how to be safe in and around the water," Beisel said. "They learn how to use a life jacket and teach proper strokes, a way to get the kids who have never been in the water to feel comfortable and not scared."
