'31 Chevrolet Coupe
I graduated from St. Petersburg Senior High and needed a car for transportation to St. Petersburg Junior College on Fifth Avenue. There were no buses then, and the streetcars did not go out that far. Everyone needed a ride, so my friends took the same classes as I did so we could all ride together. The war had just ended and cars were almost impossible to find at any price. Since my dad owned 10th Street Garage on Fifth Avenue, he was able to get the 1931 Chevrolet Coupe for me for $200. I went in the service. My brother used the car until I returned. I sold it and bought a 1937 Studebaker Dictator to go to FSU in Tallahassee. It had just gone co-ed (it was previously Florida State College for Women) and UF also went co-ed. I didn't think the '31 coupe would ever make the long trip. The car brings back many fond memories.
