Letters to the Editor for Sept. 1

Business owners struggle with power outages

As a longtime resident and business owner, I would like to address the constant problem affecting business owners at and around the intersection of Spring Hill Drive and Mariner Boulevard.

Any reasonable person would, of course, expect an occasional power outage to occur. However, this is a ridiculous constant occurrence to the business owners in this area. The problem has no resolution, and thus we are in the same predicament many times during the rainy season.

Withlacoochee River Electric Cooperative is always on the problem and seems to offer no real solution. An example would be on Aug. 25. Once again, power was interrupted, and businesses were either unable to function and or forced to turn away business. I personally lost $1,000 in sales on this particular Friday evening.

The WREC management and leaders seriously need to wake up and tend to this long-term issue. I have owned and operated a small business in this area for more than eight years and have experienced this issue. This is and will continue to be a problem until someone steps up and gets involved with a permanent solution.
