MONTCLAIR, N.J. — The Rowdies started a three-game road trip with a 4-2 loss to New York Red Bulls II on Saturday.
Martin Paterson and Hunter Gorskie had Tampa Bay's goals.
The Rowdies (10-7-8) trailed 1-0 17 minutes into the game after midfielder Andrew Tinari found himself in space and blasted a shot into the top corner of the goal.
"We started the match off well," said Rowdies coach Stuart Campbell. "We were applying the pressure early on, but their goal caught us off guard."
Paterson tied it a minute later, but New York scored the next two goals. Gorskie cut the Rowdies' deficit to 3-2 in the 77th minute, but New York got its final goal six minutes later.
"It's not the way we wanted the road trip to start," Campbell said. "We have to bounce back on Wednesday, and it gives our guys an opportunity to do just that."
The Rowdies continue their three-game road trip Wednesday, when they face Harrisburg City Islanders. They travel to play Bethlehem Steel on Sept. 9.
