Tampa’s Seminole Heights neighborhood is not only home to cool restaurants and funky shops, but is also a headquarters of sorts to art studios and galleries featuring Tampa artists. Many studios are located in private homes, so the inaugural Heights Arts Studio and Gallery Tour, happening Saturday, provides unique access and exposure to artists. The self-guided tour includes galleries Tempus Projects, Illsol and Parallelogram Gallery, the studios of Kirk Ke Wang, and East Hanna Studios, where artists Jenn Ryann Miller, Becky Flanders and Gary Schmitt (pictured) work. Tickets for the tour are $15 in advance and $20 on the day of the event. Buy advance tickets at tempus-projects.com or in person at Urban Bungalow, 6500 N Florida Ave., until 6 p.m. Friday. Day of the event tickets will be available at Tempus Projects (4636 N Florida Ave.), where all attendees will pick up wristbands and maps.
Many longtime art scene patrons and readers remember the prolific career of artist and former Times illustrator Jack Barrett. His worked explored the feminine mystique in such a wide range of artistic styles that it was difficult to ever place him in a certain category, yet was always recognizable. Barrett died in 2008, but his legacy lives on through his artwork, the complete collection of which is now represented by the Leslie Curran at the ARTicles Art Gallery in St. Petersburg. A selection of his works is currently on display in the gallery space there, in an exhibition called "Legendary Beauty." The opening reception was last week, but you can view the show during regular gallery hours now through Nov. 18. 1431 Central Ave. (727) 898-6061. articlesstpete.com.
