Some of the best skaters from around the world have gathered in Tampa for several skateboarding competitions over the weekend.

Veterans Day: There are festivities to honor veterans in almost every city in the area. A few big ones are the Veterans Day Ceremony and Parade at Tampa’s James A. Haley VA Medical Center on Friday (tinyurl.com/y8bafnrh); Bay Pines VA Veterans Day Ceremony on Saturday (baypines.va.gov) and Heroes Weekend in Gulfport on Saturday, which has a parade and a ceremony (mygulfport.us).

Ribfest: Pig out at this annual festival Saturday-Sunday in St. Petersburg’s Vinoy Park while enjoying live music from Bad Company’s Paul Rodgers, Styx singer Dennis DeYoung, and country great Charlie Daniels Band. $30, 12 and younger free. ribfest.org.

Date Night

Music: Tuesday, Bruce Hornsby brings his musical range to St. Petersburg’s Mahaffey Theater ($55-$80). Thursday, Fleetwood Mac founders Lindsey Buckingham and Christine McVie bring the tour supporting their dual self-titled album to Clearwater’s Ruth Eckerd Hall, ($63.25-$128.75), while Ian Anderson presents Jethro Tull at the Mahaffey ($49.50-$124.50). Friday, country star Chris Stapleton plays the MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheatre in Tampa ($30.75-$70.75), as 1990s alt-rockers Collective Soul Shine at Clearwater’s Capitol Theatre ($59-$69). Oddball alt-funk band Primus rocks Ruth Eckerd Hall on Saturday ($39-$69), while Ben Folds takes song requests via paper airplanes at Tampa’s Straz Center ($39.50-$59.50).

Florida Orchestra Pops: Marvin Hamlisch and More: Shows are Friday at the Straz and Saturday at the Mahaffey ($15-$45). floridaorchestra.org.

La La Land in Concert: Experience the hit musical film accompanied by a live orchestra Sunday at the Mahaffey ($25-$125).

Tampa Bay Times Festival of Reading: The festival’s 25th year brings bestselling crime author Michael Connelly and former Fox News commentator Gretchen Carlson, among more than 45 authors to the USF St. Petersburg campus Saturday. Free. tampabay.com/expos/festival-of-reading.

Kids and family

Tampa Am: Top skaters from around the country will come to the Skatepark of Tampa Wednesday-Sunday, for open public skating, skate jam sessions, trick contests, street skating and an after party. Free-$30. skateparkoftampa.com.

Kite Festival: The sky behind the Thunderbird Beach Resort on Treasure Island will be filled with kites this weekend for the Veterans Day Fall Fly. The free event features general kite flying, stunt kite lessons and demos. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday-Sunday.
