SOUTH TAMPA — Smashburger, the 10-year-old, Denver-based brand whose claim to fame comes from literally smashing gourmet burgers on a flat-top grill, launched its grand opening earlier this month.
Located at 4035 S Dale Mabry Highway in The Shoppes of South Dale across from Britton Plaza, the restaurant opened to the public on Oct. 19.
"South Tampa is just a great and vibrant place," said Craig Tengler, vice president and franchisee. "We’re excited to have our first spot in Tampa, and we’re going to have many more."
Smashburger already has a location in Clearwater, and plans to open two more sites: one near the University of South Florida on Fowler Avenue and another in Seminole. It hopes to launch an after hours program at the USF spot for students seeking a meal after midnight.
Smashburger relates with each market offering local craft beer and a regional burger with toppings and flavors that are popular in that area.
"We’re focused on being as local as we possibly can," said Tengler.
Tampa Bay’s Signature Burger is the Media Noche Burger that’s topped with smoked ham, aged Swiss cheese, pickles, red onion. and mustard on an egg bun. It also serves Cigar City Lager.
Operating as a fast casual concept, Smashburger has more than 370 corporate and franchise restaurants in 38 states and nine countries.
Customers can choose from burger varieties like black bean, turkey, customize their own burger. Burgers range in price between $6 and $7, with added charges for extra ingredients.
The restaurant also offers other entree items like grilled or crispy chicken sandwiches, salads, premium sides and Haagen-Dazs milkshakes. According to Sloane, tater tots are also coming to the menu.
