Seniors in Hillsborough County are embracing a new system of using the SAT test to help earn a high school diploma.

The school district reports that 750 seniors who took the SAT in reading on Oct. 11 earned passing scores. These can be used in place of a passing 10th grade FSA score, which is a requirement for a standard diploma in Florida.

The SAT test was given during the school day, free of charge.

The leadership in Hillsborough is aiming for a 90 percent high school graduation rate by the year 2020. The 2015-16 rate was 79.1 percent.
