Hillsborough school district seeks name ideas for new K-8

By Jeff Solochek
Cahoon Elementary will merge with Van Buren Middle to become a K-8 school.

Hoping to take better advantage of open seats, the Hillsborough County school district is merging Cahoon Elementary and Van Buren Middle schools in the fall.

Now it needs a name for the revamped school, which will serve students in prekindergarten through eighth grade.

Today is the final day to submit ideas. You can email them to  [email protected]

The School Board will take up the recommendations and make a decision on Dec. 5.

The two schools were named after Blanche M. Cahoon, a district arts supervisor in the 1940s, and Martin Van Buren, the nation's eighth president.
