Residents are invited to learn more about the new Riverview Public Library at a public meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday (Dec. 14) at the Riverview High School Cafeteria, 11311 Boyette Road.
The meeting will start with a brief presentation, then move to an open-house format where participants can look over display boards, talk one-on-one with staff from Library Services and Real Estate & Facilities Services, and offer their input.
Previous suggestions have included an exterior that reflects the community of Riverview, and an interior that would consist of smaller study areas along with several larger meeting rooms. Past meetings also have generated ideas about a catering kitchen, a coffee shop, an art gallery, an auditorium and a reading garden.
At 8,000 square feet and 35 years old, the current building on Riverview Drive is outdated and too small for the increased customer use that has accompanied new development in the area. The replacement project calls for a 35,000-square-foot building, to be located at 10003 Balm Riverview Road, just north of Boyette Road. The cost is approximately $12.6 million.
Previous public meetings focused on what residents would like to see the new facility offer, and where it would be built. The Dec. 14 meeting will concentrate on the layout of the building and the proposed architectural style.
