Kevin Thomas Moglia, an automotive teacher at Nature Coast Technical High School in Hernando County, is charged with battery after deputies say he poked a student's butt crack.

SPRING HILL — A Hernando County teacher was arrested last week on a charge of misdemeanor battery after deputies said he was accused of inappropriately touching an adult education student.

According to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office, Kevin Thomas Moglia, an auto mechanics instructor at Nature Coast Technical High School, touched a 19-year-old male student on Nov. 6. Deputies reviewed classroom surveillance video on Nov. 30, and arrested Moglia, 61.

According to the arrest report, the student told deputies that after the incident he immediately started yelling and left the classroom to tell school administrators what happened. He also said he was offended by Moglia’s actions.

Later that day, the victim contacted the Sheriff’s Office, according to the report. Surveillance video confirmed his claims, deputies said. Moglia later told deputies he intended to apologize but never had the chance.

When asked Tuesday why the school did not report the incident to law enforcement, Nature Coast principal Toni-Ann Noyes declined to comment to the Tampa Bay Times. The Hernando County School District also declined to comment, noting the ongoing investigation.

Moglia has been the auto mechanics teacher at Nature Coast since March 2006 and before that served as a substitute in Hernando County in 2004. He has no criminal history in Florida, records show.

He was booked into the Hernando County jail and released on Dec. 1 after posting $500 bond, jail records show. According to school district spokesperson Karen Jordan, Moglia is now "working at the district office doing different office tasks until the investigation is fully resolved."
