Five nights before their scheduled Outback Bowl matchup, players from Michigan and South Carolina nearly came to blows in an alley.

Specifically, a bowling alley.

As this video clip from Detroit News reporter Angelique Chengelis shows, Gamecock and Wolverine players had to be separated during a verbal altercation at the Outback Bowl's annual team night at Splitsville in the Channelside district. The incident also was captured by 247Sports' Isaiah Hole.

As the videos show, the players appeared to be separated before a punch or serious shove could be exchanged. At least one law-enforcement officer can be seen in the middle of the fray.

USC coach Will Muschamp and Michigan's Jim Harbaugh will address reporters shortly after noon Thursday. The teams are set to visit Busch Gardens later in the day.
