Critically-ill child gets shopping spree of his dreams:
Thirteen-year-old Savion Elliott, of Spring Hill, who suffers from an autoimmune disease, recently had a dream come true thanks to Make-A-Wish Southern Florida and some community-minded businesses in Hernando and Pasco counties. On Nov. 18, Make-A-Wish teamed up with Best Buy on U.S. 19 in Port Richey and Applebee’s on Commercial Way in Spring Hill to make Elliott’s wish day special. They provided him with VIP status as he loaded up on his favorite electronics and then partied with his family and friends at lunch. Elliott, the son of Sylvanious and Mary Elliott, proclaimed it “the best day ever” and was thrilled to share the experience with his family, including brother, Tyree, and wish granter Kathy Bunch. The brothers got a TV, video game system and lots of games. The store opened early to accommodate the wish family. “The wishes we grant aren’t just nice, they’re necessary,” said Lisa Andrews, regional director. “The experience enables families to focus on something positive and not just the medical issues that dominate their lives.” Shown is Elliott testing out headphones.
