The story of friendship and revenge comes to life when Stage West Community Playhouse presents 9 to 5 the Musical, which opens at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 11 on the Main Stage of the theater, 8390 Forest Oaks Blvd., Spring Hill.

With music and lyrics by Dolly Parton and book by Patricia Resnick, the musical is based on the 1980 hit movie. It is the story of three women who work under Franklin Hart Jr., a sexist, egotistical, lying and bigoted boss at Consolidated Industries: Violet Newstead, the loyal, hard-working assistant who continuously is overlooked for promotions; Doralee Rhodes, Hartís sexy and happily-married secretary, who is constantly sexually harassed by her boss; and Judy Bernly, a housewife who recently returned to the workforce after her husband runs off with his secretary.

To get even with their sleazy boss, the three women begin running the company after kidnapping and imprisoning Hart in his own home.

The show stars Monica Tellez-Daly as Violet, Elizabeth Phillips as Doralee, Lainey Poulis as Judy and Michael McGuigan as Mr. Hart.

The show is directed by Emily Nettnin, with Brady Lay as music director, Jarrett Koski as choreographer and Ellen Hutt as stage manager.

Shows continue at 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 2 p.m. Sundays through Jan. 21. Tickets are $25 adults, $20 students. Visit stagewestflorida.com or call the box office at (352) 683-5113.
