Pasco shelters available overnight for residents until Saturday

Pasco County opened two cold weather shelters to help people bracing from cold air blowing through the Florida peninsula through Saturday, officials said in a release Tuesday.

Overnight temperatures across the peninsula are expected to fall into the 20- to 30-degree range this week, according to the National Weather Service.

In response, the County opened the shelters from Tuesday night to Saturday night from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m., "for anyone needing a warm place to spend the night," the release said. "These low temperatures and wind chills are dangerous to anyone who will be outside for long periods of time."

Children, the elderly and pets are especially vulnerable and should receive extra care for their protection, officials said.
