Actor David Ogden Stiers passes away at age 75

By Steve Spears

Every single of us probably has his or her own favorite David Ogden Stiers character.

Maybe you knew him best as the stuffy Major Charles Winchester in the TV series M*A*S*H. Or as the needling dadAl Meyer in 1985's Better Off Dead. Or going outside the '80s, as the always-upbeat mayor of Grady, S.C, in 1991's Doc Hollywood – a flick so full of '80s stars that we should grandfather it into our beloved decade.

The actor died Saturday at his home in Newport, Oregon, after a battle with bladder cancer, his agency announced. He was 75.

Here are just some of the TV shows and movies he appeared in during the '80s and beyond: Creator (1985), North and South (1985), Perry Mason TV movies, Matlock, The Accidental Tourist, Mighty Aphrodite and Everyone Says I Love You.

He also voiced Cogsworth in Beauty and the Beast as well as Jumba in Lilo & Stitch.
