USF freshman G David Collins, the Bulls' steadiest offensive player down the regular season stretch, has been named to the American Athletic Conference's All-Rookie Team.

Collins scored 18 of his 21 points in the second half of the Bulls' 65-54 home win Sunday against SMU, and has reached double figures in eight of his last nine games. He ranks third on the team in scoring for the season (9.2 ppg), but is the Bulls' No. 2 scorer in conference play (11.2 ppg).

Among AAC freshmen, he ranks first in conference play in assists (2.7 per game), is tied for first in steals (1.2), and ranks second in scoring to fellow all-rookie team member Shawn Williams of East Carolina (14.6 ppg in conference play).

He's a solid candidate for the league's rookie-of-the-year award to be announced Wednesday.

"I'd be hard pressed to say he's not the rookie of the year," Bulls coach Brian Gregory said after the SMU game.

"You look at statistical analysis, he's had as good of a freshman year as anyone in the league, and statistically probably better. … He's had as good of a year as any freshman around, and he's had as big of an impact as any freshman."

Collins was the only Bulls player to land on either the all-rookie team or All-AAC squad. Both teams can be found here.
