Is Tampa among the best cities in the U.S. for celebrating St. Patrick’s Day?

According to personal finance site Wallethub, which seems to put out one of these city rankings lists daily (see: most strip clubs, best for foodies , most etc., etc., etc. “cities in America”), Tampa is up there among the big boys like Philadelphia, Boston and New York when it comes to St. Paddy’s partying.

Out of 200 cities, Tampa ranked No. 8 on their list of “best places to go for St. Patrick’s Day,” just ahead of Madison, Wisconsin, and just behind Fort Collins, Colorado. Chicago was No. 1.

What puts Tampa up there so high? First and foremost, Wallethub says we’re tied with New York City for the most Irish bars and pubs per capita in the nation.

According to their methodology, Tampa also scored high in St. Patrick’s Day traditions. Costs, weather and crime rates were also factors.

You can check out the full list and breakdown on their website.

St. Patrick’s Day, on March 17, falls on a Saturday this year. If you’re looking for ways to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in Tampa Bay, check out our event listings here.

Editor's Note: An earlier version of this story attributed a "hipster cities" list to Wallethub. That ranking was done by Movehub.
