FHP identifies Lutz driver who died after crashing into pond during seizure

WESLEY CHAPEL — The Florida Highway Patrol identified a Lutz motorist who died after suffering a seizure and then crashing into a pond as 22-year-old David Lamontagne Jr.

The crash took place at about 8:26 p.m. Monday night. Lamontagne was driving west in the driveway of the Pasco County Recreation Center at 7727 Boyette Road, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

He suffered a seizure, lost control of his 2002 Hyundai Sonata, causing the vehicle to jump a curb and plunge into a pond. The vehicle ended up underwater.

Hayden Breezewhite, 21, and Matthew Franklin, 22, both of Lutz, were riding in the car. They managed to escape and were not injured, the FHP said.

Lamontagne was taken to Florida Hospital Wesley Chapel, where he later died from his injuries.

Breezewhite, who was dating Lamotagne, declined comment to the Times. She posted a tribute to him on Facebook.
