TECO Peoples Gas monthly bills will drop by $1 in 2019

TECO Peoples Gas customers will see about a $1 drop on average in their monthly bills starting next month under a plan approved Wednesday by the Florida Public Service Commission.

The 5 percent reduction comes courtesy of $11.6 million a year that Peoples Gas customers are saving after last year’s federal tax overhaul. Peoples Gas, a subsidiary of Canadian utility Emera, currently has about 375,000 customers in Florida.

It isn’t the only utility passing on savings from tax reform to its customers. State regulators recently approved Tampa Electric’s and Duke Energy’s requests to cover hurricane expenses for their customers.

For customers with Tampa Electric, another Emera subsidiary, monthly bills will go down $6.50 in January. Duke customers, on the other hand, won’t have to pay the extra $5.20 per month for hurricane costs that they would have before the tax savings.
