100th Lost and Found: Altered Images 'Happy Birthday'
Today marks the 100th posting of Lost and Found so it’s time to celebrate with the Altered Images tune Happy Birthday.
Altered Images is from Scotland and scored six UK Hits from 1981 to 1983 including their biggest hit Happy Birthday, which hit No. 2 in 1981. Altered Images is led by the incurable happy Clare Grogan, who was charming as the sidekick girlfriend Susan in the great ‘80s treasure Gregory’s Girl.
As we celebrate the century mark, feel free to chime in your favorite and least favorite Lost and Found. Was it Cock Robin’s sexy When Your Heart is Weak? Was it weirdness like Tony Powers' Nobody Move? Or was it the humor of the one that kicked it all off last November with Joe and the Variable Speed Band’s Eugene?
Over the past five months we covered 57 American artists and 43 artists from 11 different countries. Of the Americans, California was the most popular state being represented by 15 of the performers. It’s no surprise that England led the foreign charge with 21 entries although Canada and Scotland were impressive with seven and five postings, respectively.
Along the way, we unearthed some lost hits and discovered some music we overlooked the first time around. Of the 100 songs, 26 hit the Top 40 and another 25 charted the Top 100 but failed to reach Casey’s Countdown. While every year was represented, the year most often used was 1983 with 19 selections.
Thanks to all of Steve’s readers who have taken time to follow Lost and Found. I appreciate all comments, including those that question my musical taste. Thanks to Steve who sets everything in motion and comes up with some great headlines – one that was so clever it got retweeted by Martha Quinn!
