Oprah, Oprah, Oprah ... Isn't it getting old?

Oprah's in the news more than Osama. She's in the news even when the news isn't about her. Just ask James Frey and Dave Chappelle. Today, it's because of her tribute for the late Coretta Scott King. Tomorrow, who knows? Is there a more over-exposed person in today's entertainment culture? It is she just over-exposed or maybe overrated? Over-powered even?

Was it that long ago that she was stealing scenes in The Color Purple? That 1985 film seems easily forgotten. (It's on the cable channels this month -- catch it again!) It was a Spielberg classic, and still people say, "Oprah was in that? Oh yeah." She had all the great lines too. "I loves Harpo, God knows I do. But I'll kill him dead 'fo I let him beat me."

The movie was full of actors who can probably call it their career pinnacle -- Whoopi Goldberg, Danny Glover, Margaret Avery. We 80s addicts would rather watch that film a dozen times in a day than sit through a single episode of her daytime show. Sadly, it was her last real silver screen appearance.

No offense, but what a waste of talent.
