"Another day to make my stand ... oh-whoa!"

Duran_duran

Twenty-some years ago, my friends and I had a nice Friday morning tradition. We'd all hop into my white 1982 Ford Mustang (with fake air scoop on the hood), blaze away toward school at Countryside High and blast Duran Duran's "The Reflex" at top volume on the car stereo.

We never understood the lyrics, except the one line: "Another day to make my stand, oh-whoa." It became our Friday morning mantra. Our call to arms. (And of course, the video absolutely ruled. Still does.) To me, the rest of the song sounded like jibberish, yet I had faith it was full of other inspirational musings. In all these years, I've never bothered to look up the real words, until today.

"The reflex is an only child, he's waiting in the park. The reflex is in charge of finding treasure in the dark. And watching over lucky clover isn't that bizarre. Every little thing the reflex does leaves you answered with a question mark."

Are you kidding me, Simon Le Bon? Now that I know the words, I'm considering finding a new Friday morning song. Any suggestions, gang?
