Duran Duran ready to relive "Rio"
Great news for Duran Duran-philes out there (and let's face it, that's all of us, right?)
The lads from Birmingham are recording a "Classic Albums" special focusing on their 1982 masterpiece "Rio."
According to the Uncut website out of the UK, the band has already re-recorded the album's key tracks -- "Save A Prayer," "The Chauffeur," "New Religion," "Hungry Like The Wolf" and the title track -- live for the program, which is expected to be released on DVD on Oct. 27.
Original band members Simon Le Bon, Nick Rhodes, John Taylor and Roger Taylor are featured in interviews, retelling the story behind the making of "Rio" and its following success. A top 10 album in the UK, US and Australia, "Rio" eventually went double-platinum.
So far, there's no mention of Andy Taylor's role in the project. (He left the band before the making of "Red Carpet Massacre.")
"Classic Albums" is a DVD series produced by Eagle Rock Entertainment. The installments are usually broadcast on networks such as BBC, VH1 and VH1 Classic. Previous 80s albums covered on the show include Def Leppard's Hysteria, Paul Simon's Graceland and U2's Joshua Tree.
TOP 5 UNDER-PLAYED TRACKS FROM RIO:
5. LAST CHANCE ON THE STAIRWAY: "I don't even know what you're thinking, don't even know what you're drinking.
But it keeps this heaven alive."
4. MY OWN WAY: "It ain't your problem anyway."
3. LONELY IN YOUR NIGHTMARE: "When the lights of hope are fading quickly, then look to me.
I'll be your homing angel. I'll be in your head."
2. HOLD BACK THE RAIN: "Sometimes you're needed badly.
So please come back again."
1. THE CHAUFFEUR: "Sing, sing ... blue silver."
