Johnny Rotten is now into R-E-S-P-E-C-T

VH1 Classic's "80 Hours of the '80s" was a great way to spend Labor Day weekend. One brilliant video I'd long forgotten was this one: "Rise" from Public Image Limited.

The Times of London has a great interview with the legendary Johnny Rotten. Some of the crazier things to come out of his mouth, include:

  • "Respect is Johnny Rotten's motto. Young kids now ain't got no respect."
  • "Sid (Vicious) wouldn't hurt a butterfly. ... People love to rewrite. Oh, it's like a Norman Mailer novel, isn't it? Rewriting Sid, you know, at the Chelsea Hotel, a mad punk rocker with his carving knife stabbing his girlfriend. It's bull---t. ... And he was a really sweet man really deep down inside. Bonkers, of course, but no man's coathanger."

There's no sense trying to pull more quotes out of the Times story because it's an epic piece worthy of your full attention. (Still trying to wrap your mind around the Sex Pistols? You can always relive the bio-pic "Sid & Nancy" during our special podcast from a few years back.)
