Some pop hack ruined 'Personal Jesus'
I like to pretend I've never heard of Hilary Duff. (She's named after the fictional beer from The Simpsons, right?) But sadly, I think I actually sat through A Cinderella Story on a dare once. (It was either that or give Madonna a foot massage. I stand by my decision.)
So imagine the horror in learning her new single Reach Out samples heavily from Depeche Mode's Personal Jesus. How heavily? Listen for yourself. Just stay away from sharp objects and count to 10 before unleashing the necessary wave of profanity required to fight off certain madness.
Depeche Mode, to their credit, seems to be keeping it all in perspective. Frontman Dave Gahan recently talked with Idolator.com about Duff's "reappropriation" of their 1989 hit.
"I don't know what I think about it. It's a little weird. I think it was something that Martin (Gore) didn't really have any choice over, they kind of did it anyway," Gahan said. "But, you know, it is what it is. Look, my daughter loves it. You know what she said to me? 'But it's not the same, Dad.' "
