Best '80s dance scenes: Name your favorites
Footloose. Dirty Dancing. Fame. Even Can't Buy Me Love. What do they all have in common? Memorable dance scenes.
Oh, I know what some people would say. "The '80s had lousy dancing moments. We love Strictly Ballroom and Step Up." You know what we call those people? Losers! Chumps! Go back and listen to your Coldplay and Matchbox 20 records, because this blog isn't for you!
So here's the drill. Let's name the best dance scenes of the '80s. And yes, you can include Michael Jackson's Thriller, since the video is basically a mini-movie. Here are some you might have forgotten.
FOOTLOOSE (1984): So many dancing scenes here to choose from, but I'm fond of Kevin Bacon teaching the late Chris Penn how to dance. A little old-school robot action too.
COMING TO AMERICA (1988): Before Eddie Murphy meets his bride-to-be -- "Bark like a dog ... a big dog" -- the people of Zamunda put on a dance presentation that would give Riverdance a run for its money.
CAN'T BUY ME LOVE (1987): Patrick Dempsey learns to dance by tuning to American Bandstand, only to mistakenly watch PBS and learn the "African anteater ritual."
BEETLEJUICE (1988): Tough pick here. Do you pick the Day-O possession scene? Or the Jump in the Line finale? Probably good that Alec Baldwin hasn't tried dancing on the big screen since then.
PEE-WEE'S BIG ADVENTURE (1985): Can you even listen to Tequila anymore without thinking of Pee Wee singing it (clap, clap, clap) deep in the heart of Texas? [Watch it]
