The Wolverines are back: 'Red Dawn' remake announces new cast

Reddawn_l Looks like the Wolverines are ready to defend the ol' red, white and blue again. The studio behind the remake of 1984's Red Dawn has announced three casting decisions for the new film.

Chris Hemsworth (Home and Away) will take over the lead role of "Jed Eckert" (Patrick Swayze's old role) as the older brother and leader of the teenaged insurgents. Josh Peck (The Wackness, Drillbit Taylor) will play "Matt Eckert" (Charlie Sheen's role), the younger brother. Adrianne Palicki (Friday Night Lights) will play "Toni" (Jennifer Grey).

Entertainment Weekly has a few scoops on differences between the remake and the original flick. This time around, the town is invaded by Russians and Chinese soldiers (instead of Cubans). And Toni will have the hots for Jed, who's a Marine back home on temporary leave this time around. (I never did really know what Swayze's character was up to as the first movie begins. Those Commies were shooting up teachers before we could work through the details.)

I like the casting decisions so far. Like the original movie, all the actors are flying below the radar right now in Hollywood. Will their careers skyrocket after the new Red Dawn? We'll find out after Sept. 24, 2010, the planned release date.
