Nikita: Best or worst of Elton in the '80s?

Nikita Elton John has pretty much owned the last four decades. But of those years, were the '80s really his best?

Take this song: Nikita. I doubt Elton plays it much in concert anymore, but back in 1985, it was a Top 10 hit in about every civilized country. Listen very closely and maybe you can make out George Michael and Nik Kershaw singing backup vocals. So let me ask you: Was Nikita his best song of the '80s? Or his worst? (Personally, I'd vote it close to the top.)

Tonight, I'm actually heading to see an Elton John impersonator show at the beach here in Tampa Bay. Should be a great show. You can hear his stuff here. So I'm feeling particularly Eltony today.

By the way, in the MTV video, that's Anya Major playing the part of the GDR security guard whom Elton is crushing on. Does she look familiar? She ought to. She played the role of the hammer-throwing runner in the famous Apple computer for Macintosh back in 1984.

Oh, and "Nikita" -- that's actually a guy's name in Russian. And yeah, Elton admits he knew that all along. God, I miss the '80s.
