His face will be more memorable to us from watching hours and hours of MTV than his more-famous days in the pro wrestling business. "Captain" Lou Albano, Cyndi Lauper's "dad" in so many of her iconic music videos, died today at age 76.

The WWE Hall of Famer was at home, under the care of Hospice, when he passed away, according to MTV.com. The cause of death has not been reported, but the Miami Herald says it wasn't cancer.

Before he became the paternal face of Lauder's MTV career, Albano made his mark as the manager of pro wrestling tag teams with names as diverse as the Masked Executioners, the Mongols and the Wild Samoans.

Aside from the music videos, Albano had an otherwise successful career in Hollywood during the '80s and '90s starring in a variety of movies including Wise Guys (1986), Body Slam (1986) and Stay Tuned (1992). He also played "Mario" in the TV series The Super Mario Bros. Super Show.

Lauper wrote the intro to Albano's autobiography, Often Imitated, Never Duplicated. According to Rolling Stone, Lauper once claimed on the Tonight Show that Albano was her mentor because he had taught her the three keys to fame: "politeness, etiquette, and grooming."
