Daryl Hall names his top 5 favorite songs (No 'Maneater' or 'Kiss is on my List'!!)
Daryl Hall has possibly the most underrated voice of '80s popsters. And what's so cool is that if you check out Hall & Oates these days in concert, it's even better -- like a blues-infused smoothie that quickly spreads over you, both warming and cooling you with each classic tune.
You doubt my sincerity? Then check out the new Hall & Oates boxset out this week -- Do What You Want, Be What You Are: The Music of Daryl Hall & John Oates. Sure, it has all the classics you'd expect on a greatest-hits CD, but it doesn't stop there. But sure to check out their older pre-'80s classics (gasp!) like Alone Too Long, Wait For Me and Las Vegas Turnaround.
Still, Daryl Hall knows we'll still hooked on the hits, and so in this week's issue of Entertainment Weekly, he gladly names his top 5 favorite songs from their catalog. Here they are, along with a comment from Daryl himself:
SHE'S GONE (1974): "It's very thematic with us: this soaring melody and uplifting chord progression, but about a very sad thing." [Video]
SARA SMILE (1976): "I can't tell you how many girls have told me they were named for it." [Video]
EVERY TIME YOU GO AWAY (1980): "I feel very proud of its craftsmanship." [Video]
YOU MAKE MY DREAMS (1980): The fact they use it in a pivotal scene in (500) Days of Summer ... I'm very flattered." [Watch scene]
ONE ON ONE (1982): "I was on the road for so many years, living this very transient live. ... This song sort of describes that." [Video]
