The next 'Greatest American Hero' is ... a Canadian?!?
The Greatest American Hero can't be Canadian, can he? Don't tell that to Nathan Fillion. The star of TV's Castle and (previously of Firefly) thinks he's perfect for the role -- assuming the once-popular '80s show gets remade.
"I think Greatest American Hero is ripe for a comeback," Fillion told MTV News. "I know I'm Canadian, but I think I could put my hat in for that one."
A reboot of Greatest American Hero has been rumored for a while around Hollywood. When the show's star William Katt visited with Stuck in the '80s earlier this year, he mentioned that Owen Wilson was once considered the frontrunner for the job.
The '80s show -- co-starring Robert Culp and Connie Sellecca -- lasted just a few seasons on TV. It followed the misadventures of a high school teacher who's given a suit with superhero powers ("magic jammies," as they're so affectionately called), only to lose the all-important instruction manual. Comic hilarity ensued. The complete series is now available on DVD and Katt has turned the franchise into a subject for a series of comic books.
But back to Fillion.
"I just finished watching the DVD collection of it and thought it had some really great direction and I think it kind of slipped and slid around a little bit," he told MTV. "It's too bad they just didn't just let it continue in this very strong direction and just let it become its own thing and let it grow and let it be incredibly strong."
Attention, casting agents. Fillion's final pitch: "What better way to pay homage to something I enjoyed as a younger man than to do it again."
