David Cassidy … rest in peace

David Cassidy was absolutely one of the biggest teen idols of the 1970s. From his lofty perch with TV's The Partridge Family, he was perhaps – along with the Brady boys – among the first male role models for kids like me who grew up glued to the TV sets looking for answers in our preadolescent years.

But it's become an unfortunate routine in our lives now that these people are leaving us. It comes with our own advancing age. I'm 50 now. I have had close friends die already – some by accident, some from a health tragedy – but they're gone nonetheless. We cry. We shake our heads in disbelief. We try to find some grace in it all. And then, one small step at a time, we try to carry on. It never EVER seems to get any easier.

For David's fans, the news was officially announced this morning on his official website:

David Cassidy has meant so much to so many people.

David was an iconic teen idol in the 70's and he maintained a career spanning movies, theatre, music, writing, directing. His multi-generational connection to so many people from all walks of life, from all around the world will be felt today.

Despite being a star, he was kind hearted, thoughtful and considerate of others. He will be greatly missed.

Rest in peace, David Cassidy. And thank you.
