In the '80s, Roxette had The Look and Go-Go's declared We Got The Beat but before those two groups owned those catch phrases, one English group made the first claim for each as The Look declared I Am The Beat.
In 1980, The Look had a U.K. Top 10 hit with the infectious I Am The Beat. With a catchy refrain backed up with delicious Hammond Organ fills, The Look caught the same vibe of other Mod Revival bands like The Jam with I Am The Beat.
Record company battles stalled any momentum built with I Am The Beat and the band broke up in 1983 only to reform again 20 years later. Their 1981 self-titled album is on Spotify.
