Jim Henson fans are going to love this: His masterpiece The Dark Crystal has been restored to 4k glory and will be re-released to theaters in February 2018, according to Movieweb.com.
The 1982 fantasy-adventure flick was directed by Henson and Frank Oz and featured voice work by Stephen Garlick, Lisa Maxwell, Billie Whitelaw, Percy Edwards and Barry Dennen. In The Dark Crystal, an elf-like 'Gelfling' is on a quest to restore balance to his world by returning a lost shard to a powerful gem.
The movie got a lukewarm response at the box office and mixed reviews from critics but later grew to be a cult classic after its release to home video.
Fathom Events is re-releasing The Dark Crystal in theaters on Sunday, February 25, and Wednesday, February 28, at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. local time on both days. Tickets for the event are set to go on sale on Friday, January 12.
