Interview: Rick Springfield fighting depression, suicidal thoughts

Rick Springfield went public this week about his continued battle with depression and suicidal thoughts. During an interview with SiriusXM's Lori Majewski (airing today at 9:30 a.m.), the singer admits he had thoughts of suicide as recently as last year.

The singer/actor had previously written about his struggles in his 2011 book Late, Late At Night, admitting he began feeling depressed at age 17 and even tried hanging himself (thankfully the rope snapped).

"I've taken Prozac and all that kind of stuff and I meditate. Mediation is the only thing that takes me out of it. If I truly meditate and focus and get to that place, I'm not depressed. No matter what's going on. But it's pretty hard," he told this SiriusXM host.

"Anyone says, 'How you doing?' I never go, 'Great.' … I'm at the point now in my life where I want to do what's truthful."
