A third Gremlins movie? This is what happens when you feed Hollywood writers after midnight. But writer Chris Columbus says a third installment is on the way – only it will be a reboot rather than a sequel.
"Gremlins we are actively talking about that," Columbus told an interviewer, according to a Movieweb.com report. "So that's what I am working on with my production company 1492 Pictures. It will almost definitely be a reboot."
Ah, so "most definitely" a reboot? That's good enough for us because the original 1984 flick wasn't already most definitely not adorable enough. And let's just pretend 1990's Gremlins 2: The New Batch never happened. (I know the movie-going public that year surely forgot.)
The 1984 movie told the story of a young man who receives an odd pet as a gift from his father, but things go haywire when he doesn't follow a set of peculiar care instructions. (We all know by heart now, right? No bright lights. No feeding after midnight. And don't get him wet.)
Give Zach Galligan – the original star of the movies – credit (or blame) for pushing for a new movie. The actor started a Twitter campaign back in January to drum up support. And before you ask, yes, it's believed that Gizmo will return in puppet form and not be subjected to the dreaded CGI treatment.
