"Bark like a dog! A big dog!" Because nothing says "dog" like a sequel for Coming to America. Paramount confirmed reports this week that Coming to America 2 is actually in the works, Movieweb.com reports.
The 1988 movie starred Eddie Murphy as an African prince who escapes to America to find his true love and future bride. It was was of the last great comedies in Murphy's amazing run during the '80s. Last year, Murphy sent out a Tweet teasing at the possibility of a sequel, and reports surfaced this fall that Jonathan Levine had been tapped to direct.
Paramount now says original writers Barry Blaustein and David Sheffield are on board.
What does the storyline hold for us? Last we saw, Prince Akeem had just married Lisa McDowell. Some 30 years later, things seem ripe for stories of their children (or grandchildren). Will we learn the fate of McDowell's vs. McDonald's? And whatever happened to his faithful servant Semmi (played by Arsenio Hall)?
