Excellent or bogus? Bill and Ted 3 is confirmed

Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter have been confirmed to reprise their heroic roles in Bill and Ted 3, Deadline.com reports. The movie even has a real name – Bill & Ted Face the Music – so we must know it's true this time.

For those keeping records, almost 30 years have passed since the first Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure (a few years less since the sequel Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey). Critics were mystified by what they saw on screen back then, calling the story "paltry and undernourished." But fans found something to like in the simple story and adorable characters, so Bill & Ted have been that '80s power couple we've all continued to root for.

But a third installment? It'll either most excellent or most heinous.

Deadline reports original screenwriters Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon have returned with a new script. Dean Parisot (Galaxy Quest) is set to direct.

The original story had our heroes traveling through time in a phone booth (they'll have to rework the time capsule device!) in search of historic figures to help them pass a history oral exam so they can fulfill their destinies as rock stars in the future.

According to Deadline, the third movie finds our heroes as middle-aged men still searching for success. To kickstart their quest, they again travel through time to meet with music legends who can help their cause.

The movie is in pre-production but no release date has been set.
