Production begins on Top Gun 2

Great balls of fire! It looks like Top Gun 2 is actually going to happen. Tom Cruise is gonna buzz Hollywood's tower with Top Gun: Maverick, and according to his social media accounts, it appears that production has begun.

Give DenofGeek.com credit for spotting Cruise's tweet featuring the actor, a jet and the words "Feel the Need" plastered on the pic. Cruise also added the hashtag "#Day1."

Jerry Bruckheimer will serve as producer and Joseph Kosinski is directing. The story is believed to center around Cruise's character – Pete "Maverick" Mitchell – who is now a flight instructor at the famed Top Gun school. There's no news on other co-stars, though Val Kilmer has previously announced to fans that he's on board.

Look for Top Gun: Maverick to take flight on July 12, 2019.

And conveniently if this has made you feel the need for speed, you can watch the original Top Gun as part of Tampa Theatre's summer classics series this weekend. Click here for details.
