Actor Val Kilmer has confirmed he's on board for Top Gun 2 – officially called Top Gun: Maverick. It's assumed Kilmer will reprise his role as "Iceman," Tom Cruise's main rival at the elite Navy flight school. Production has already started on the film.

TheWrap.com reports the long-suspected reunion will indeed take place, though reps for the studio have so far declined to comment. Kilmer had previously teased on social media that he had already accepted an offer – script unseen – before his agent told him to back off the claim.

Meanwhile, singer Kenny Loggins (who is headlining the 2019 voyage of The 80s Cruise – featuring appearances by your Stuck in the '80s hosts) has confirmed that his signature anthem Danger Zone will also appear in the new movie.

According to Movieweb.com, Loggins told TMZ that some version of the song is slated to appear, though it could feature a younger, more contemporary artist.

"Maybe do it his way or their way, depending on if its a band or a solo artist," Loggins said. "So we'll reinvent the song, to a point. That's what I'm hoping to do."

Look for Top Gun: Maverick in theaters on July 12, 2019.
