30 years later, Krush Groove still a campy time capsule of hip-hop's start in the '80s
Some movie anniversaries you just can't believe. Others? Well, 1985's Krush Groove looks entirely 30 years old. Released Oct. 25, 1985, Krush Groove loosely re-enacts the early days of Def Jam Recordings, with Russell Simmons (named Russell Walker in the movie) being played by Blair Underwood.
It's a who-was-who of the early '80s hip-hop scene with cameos by Sheila E., the Fat Boys, Beastie Boys, Run-DMC, New Edition and the first on-screen appearance by LL Cool J. Here's the trailer in all its '80s glory.
