AC/DC pauses tour to save Brian Johnson's hearing
AC/DC is rescheduling 10 upcoming concert dates on their U.S. tour, the band announced on its website. That includes their only Florida stop, March 11 in Fort Lauderdale. The reason? Brian Johnson’s ears!
“AC/DC’s lead singer, Brian Johnson, has been advised by doctors to stop touring immediately or risk total hearing loss,” an official statement read.
The band has a reputation for being one of the loudest acts on the touring road - it took me nearly a week to recover when I saw them back in the early ‘80s on the For Those About To Rock tour - but this is the first we’ve heard about hearing issues for Johnson, who makes his home in Sarasota, Fla.
Even odder: The band says the makeup dates will likely be done with a “guest vocalist.” Whoa. Not sure that’s a good idea. I realize Johnson isn't the only singer in the band's history - he was preceded by the late Bon Scott - but he's been the frontman since 1980. In any case, the website says current ticket holders can either hold onto their tickets or get a refund at point of purchase.
Here are the dates to be rescheduled:
March 8: Atlanta, GA
March 11: Ft. Lauderdale, FL
March 14: Greensboro, NC
March 17: Washington, DC
March 20: Detroit, MI
March 23: Columbus, OH
March 26: Cleveland, OH
March 29: Buffalo, NY
April 1: Philadelphia, PA
April 4: New York, NY
