Aussie Week ends with a sadly underappreciated INXS tune
This week in our salute to Australian music we have covered some bands that may have been unfamiliar to you, but let's wrap up the week with one of '80s most popular bands not only in Australia, but also in the U.S. with INXS and Kiss The Dirt (Falling Down The Mountain).
In 1985, INXS was hitting their stride with the release of the Listen Like Thieves album and What You Need became a Top 5 hit. Even though Thieves went double platinum, What You Need was still the only single from that album that hit the U.S. Top 40. Kiss The Dirt (Falling Down The Mountain) was the fourth single and did not even chart in the U.S. while peaking at No. 15 on the Aussie charts.
The video for Kiss The Dirt (Falling Down The Mountain) finds the band visiting their home country at one of their many salt lakes in the dry, reddish, flat desert region of south Australia. This month marks the 18th anniversary of the death of lead singer Michael Hutchence.
