Back in the '80s, 'My Baby' was The Pretenders' pride and joy
Looking for a present for an '80s music fan in your life? Just in time for the gift-giving season, the Pretenders have released their first album in eight years. If you are looking for reasons to remind yourself of how good the Prentenders were in the '80s, let's dig out the old chestnut My Baby.
Released in October, Alone is the 10th album by the Pretenders and while sales have been sluggish, the reviews have been good. Even in the '80s, some songs by the Pretenders didn't sell well as evidenced by My Baby that only made it to No. 64 on the singles chart in 1986.
The video for My Baby fits the winter mood as the video was shot by the sea in the grey windy winter in mostly black and white. Despite the overcast coloring of the video, the song is upbeat as My Baby is Chrissie Hynde's love song to her newly born daughter, Yasmin - whose father is Jim Kerr of Simple Minds. The video finds some unfamiliar faces in the Pretenders as Hynde is the only original member of the band left in My Baby video after the death of two members earlier in the decade and the recent firing of drummer Martin Chambers.
In 1993, Chamber rejoined the Pretenders and together they are currently on tour as part of a double bill with Stevie Nicks.
