Blade Runner sequel begins production this summer
Forget all those horrible rumors about a Labyrinth sequel. It turns out that a sequel to 1982’s Blade Runner really is in the works and will begin shooting in July with a 2017 release date planned.
Harrison Ford is set to reprise his role as Deckard, says Movieweb.com, with Ryan Gosling also at the top of the bill. The still untitled movie will be directed by Denis Villeneuve with Hampton Fancher (who co-wrote the ’82 script) helping out on the screenplay.
Few details of the Blade Runner sequel are available, though it appears the story will take place several decades after the original plot. The big question many ‘80s fans have hopefully will be answered: Is Deckard - the cop assigned to hunt down replicants - a replicant himself?
The director has hinted the answer is coming.
"Now that I am on the other side of the fence I cannot answer,” Villeneuve said in a previous interview. “The thing I must say is that I love mystery. I love shadows. I love doubts. I would just want to say to the fans that we will take care of that mystery. I will take care of it."
