Casey Kasem in failing health as adult children (not '80s fans!) squabble
If I could send just one long-distance dedication, it'd be to Casey Kasem, the longtime American Top 40 radio host who is fighting advanced Parkinson's Disease these days. The saddest part, however, is that his family is feuding in courtrooms over his medical care.
People magazine reports that Kasem's three adult children from his first marriage are trying to visit their dad for the holidays, but that their evil stepmom has blocked off all access to the 81-year-old radio legend.
On Tuesday, a judge in Los Angeles told both sides to work on their own to reach a visitation schedule. The judge also said there was no evidence that Kasem was being mistreated in his medical care, a point the kids were also pushing.
Kasem gave up hosting the American Top 40 show in 2004, handing the microphone over to Ryan Seacrest. In 2007, Kasem's son Mike tried his hand at hosting, but the show went off the air in 2009. You can still hear reruns from the '70s and '80s, featuring the original Casey Kasum, on Sirius/XM radio.
