'Anvil' finally gets a Tampa Bay showing

Tampa Bay's wait to see Anvil: The Story of Anvil was only slightly less long than the band's actual rise to semi-stardom. The Beach Theatre in St. Pete Beach will show the critically acclaimed documentary on Aug. 28 (5:40 p.m.), Aug. 31 (8 p.m.), Sept. 1 (3 p.m.) and Sept. 3 (5:40 pm.)

Definitely check the theater's website or call them at 727-360-6697 to double-check showtimes before leaving home.

Anvil: The Story of Anvil tells the sad story of the Canadian rock band Anvil (you guessed that much, didn't you?), which seemed poised to make it big in the '80s before a string of god-forsaken catastrophes derailed the musicians. The buzz on the film has been largely positive; it also won the 2008 award for best international documentary at the Calgary International Film Festival.  Chicago Sun-Times' Roger Ebert still seemed a bit confused. " I don't know if their music is any good," Ebert wrote in his review. "Their fans think so."
