Asia's original lineup returns to Clearwater on Nov. 20

Asia/Publicity photo by Mike InnsAsia is bringing the original lineup of the ultimate '80s supergroup back to Clearwater for a show Nov. 20 at the historic Capitol Theatre.

This will be only the second Tampa Bay stop for Asia since they reunited in 2007. Bassist/vocalist John Wetton, drummer Carl Palmer, keyboardist Geoff Downes and guitarist Steve Howe have been touring fairly regularly since then, including a stop at Ruth Eckerd Hall that first year. This time, they'll play a far-more intimate venue. Tickets go on sale Saturday, Aug. 4.

Added bonus: This tour stop will include the band playing their 1982 self-titled debut album in its entirety. That makes total sense since this year marks its 30th anniversary. Still, they have a new album to pimp as well, so expect a few cuts from the excellent XXX album as well.

"This is the real Asia," Howe said in the tour announcement. "There have been other versions of the band, but this original line-up is the one that the public truly embraced."

Well, yeah, there were other versions. That's what happens when you split up a supergroup after just two albums. But since XXX marks the third album since the reunion, we can assume they're sticking together this time around. Long live prog.

Reserved tickets priced at $85.00 and $69.00 will be available at the Ruth Eckerd Hall Ticket Office located at 1111 McMullen Booth Road in Clearwater, by calling 727.791.7400 or by logging onto The Ruth Eckerd Hall Ticket Office is open Monday through Saturday, from noon to 6 pm.
