Back to Kokomo: Beach Boys' Mike Love fires Brian Wilson, Al Jardine
Wouldn't it be nice if the original Beach Boys could just get along? The good vibrations are definitely gone after Mike Love, who legally owns the name Beach Boys, has fired Brian Wilson, Al Jardine and David Marks from the lineup just days before their 50th anniversary tour is set to end.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Love will continue touring this fall with a backup band that could include actor John Stamos, who climbed on board the bandwagon back in the '80s during their Kokomo days.
"I'm disappointed and can't understand why he (Love) doesn't want to tour with Al, David and me," Wilson told CNN. "We are out here having so much fun. After all, we are the real Beach Boys."
The final concert with the original lineup is set for Friday at London's Wembley Stadium.
Jardine, meanwhile, is asking fans to sign a petition to support the original lineup vs. Love's stripped-down version. It currently has more than 4,000 electronic signatures.
